A Life transformed!

Shiva is 14 and from a very rural area in one of the poorest states of India.
All his life he has struggled, not just with the grinding poverty that he has endured his whole life, but has had to live with a severe heart condition that he has had since birth.
If he had been born in a different place or into a richer family, he would have had heart surgery as a young baby and would have been running around normally since he was a child. However, since he was born he has struggled with his breathing and has never been able to play or run around with his friends.
His father died when he was younger, and his mother had all but given up hope that she would be able to get any help for her son. Then one day a relative of the family told them about the ‘Love the One’ clinic that had recently opened in a nearby village. At first just his uncle came to enquire as the family thought that Shiva was beyond help. However, once they realised that help was available, Shiva and his Mum came along to meet the team.
Amazingly, a hospital in Hyderabad, 2 days away from his home agreed to give him a chance and helped to fund, in partnership with Love the One, a life saving and life changing operation for Shiva. In May, Shiva made the long journey from his mud hut village, to the big city and the surgeons at STAR hospital did an amazing job and gave Shiva a second chance!!
The operation was a great success and Shiva noticed an immediate improvement in his breathing. Just after his operation he also found out that he had passed his GCSE equivalent exams, well done Shiva!!!
So in one month, Shiva’s life has completely changed and he now has a hope and a future!

Christmas Fun for some very special children! 
Love the One hosted their first Christmas party for the children in the community around the new children’s clinic in Orissa.
180 very excited children from very poor backgrounds all arrived for a day of fun, games including a mini olympics (complete with their very own awards ceremony gold medals and trophies!), christmas crafts, songs, yummy food and lots of Christmas presents to go home with!!
Many of the children had never been to a Christmas party before and were just so excited with all the games and songs and they loved the ‘alternative’ nativity from the donkeys point of view! Dilip and Joe, some of the Love the One staff kept the kids entertained as a clown and Father Christmas and a combined India and UK team did an amazing job at entertaining the children and having the children, their parents and the team rolling around the floor in giggles!
Some of the children with more complex needs who attend the clinic on a regular basis were able to join in also and everyone had a fabulous day and left with arms full of fun pressies and tummies full of yummy biryani!!
Love the One look forward to many more Christmas parties for more and more of these very special children in the poorest and most rural areas of India.
